Week 2 Written Assignment (paper) The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a guide to assist people in determining if they may have a longer life span than average, which may be possible if they are not overweight, on the other hand they are probably overweight, or are obese. The intervals for each are from 17 to 22, 23 to 24.999, 25 to 29.9, and over 30 respectively. Notice that it is between 17 and 22. That is not inclusive but rather a compound inequality statement which is 17 30 which will be written as (30, +8). Anyway, my BMI will be calculated, and I will explain how I arrived at the results. Sometimes, a person’s BMI can be misleading, so reasons will be provided about why. Finally, there is an evaluation of the regions outside of the “probably not overweight” range by using the set and interval notations along with a simple graph of the regions. BMI = (703W) / H2 Where W = one’s weight in pounds, and Where H = one’s height in inches. We are asked to calculate four intervals based on our own height. My height is 65.35 inches. The specified intervals include three compounds “between” inequalities, and one regular inequality. Everywhere “BMI” shows up in the inequalities I will substitute the formula and solve the inequality for W to specify the weight ranges which fit each category for my height.
